Are all invited visits official visits?

If you are in your senior year, and a coach from a small DII school with limited budget is interested in you, do they have to invite you for an official visit? If funds are very limited for your sport at their school do they sometimes invite you to visit but on your own dime?

No, they are under no obligation to invite you for an official visit, especially if funds are limited for your sport. A coach could certainly invite you to visit at your own expense. This would be classified as an unofficial vist.

D3 schools cant do “official visits” where they pay for you etc. thats a d1 thing. they have equivalents to official visits usually though.

Yes, my son went on several D3 visits, but he had to pay his way to get there. They would usually pay for his meals while he was on campus, and he stayed in a dorm room with one of the runners. He got to go on one official D1 visit, where they paid for his airline ticket and my hotel room! That was kind of cool.

Thank you for your replies. Is it typical of DII schools to have you pay your own way, even at the coaches request for a visit?

Probably nothing typical in regards to paying or not paying. I was on a visit (unofficial) with mys son at a Dlll school in Indiana and at the same time there was another recruit from California on his parents dime(s). If it is within driving distance and maybe 1-2 nights in a hotel and the school seems to be a good fit it is worth the money spent (of course if there is money available to spend out of pocket). Remember, you are only allowed 5 official visits.
