Recently I have been hearing that many OOS students that have applied to UT Austin have been getting rejected. Have so many 10%ers applied that UT Austin has no more room for OOS students? Any comments are welcome, as I am beginning to be very worried that I will not get accepted (I applied on the last day of November and still have not heard back). Did they only accept the close-to-perfect (or perfect) OOS students?

kiki, did you check the status of your application online? That is how I learned of my admissions decision.

I check about 100 times a day (literally)...

It's possible that they've filled their quota, but quite unlikely. I was told by an admissions counselor that they have NEVER had to reject an OOS student because they were already at the limit that the state of Texas allows. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Maybe I should just give up on the dream. Stop looking up the clubs and activities at UT, the places to eat and shop in Austin, etc...

I don't think that how many IS students Texas accepts affects OOS applicants because Texas reserves a number of spots specifically for OOS. I live in Nebraska, applied in mid-novemeber and was accepted about 2-3 weeks later. I have a close friend however who appled in mid-december and has still not received a decision yet. Regardless to say he is getting worried.

I think admissions at the moment has been a bit slow. About a week ago I requested that admissions change my first choice major from Mechanical Engineering to Computer Science (with required documentation), and they still haven't changed it on my application status page. I applied in Mid-December as Out of State and I still haven't heard as well.

OMG everyone..... I GOT IN! TO MY FIRST CHOICE MAJOR ( BIOLOGY) AND EVERYTHING! I STILL CANT BELIEVE IT!!!

Congratulations =)

Also just to note on what I said above:
I got a letter today stating that UT is no longer allowing students to change their requested major.

Would have been nice if their website would've said theres a deadline to do so.

Dal, does that apply to admitted students?

When I went up to the campus last Friday I requested for them to change my major from Biology to Psychology and I got a letter yesterday saying that it was changed. I had NO idea that they've decided to stop letting students change their majors. I wonder if that's because so many people have been changing their minds?

I sent in my request that same day...

I would assume it also applies for admitted students.

wow, kikib I'm like you too.. I've been checking like 100 times a day ever since January...
I applied November 16.......
I'm glad you got in...
I hope I get in too........

Thanks for the congratultions everyone! Good Luck UcMichigan!

My S just found out this morning. He is OOS and got his 1st choice of Natural Sciences. When do we find out about scholarship money?

OMG you guys who got in are so lucky! Congrats! I am still waiting nervously for my decision...I also check a million times a day. (><) I applied as OOS in Dec...

^I was wondering the same as well. I know UT Austin has very little scholarship money for OOS students, but when do wo find out if we have recieved any?

Wemel I don't think you start finding out about scholarship money until sometime in March.

I'm OOS in engineering, and I received my scholarship information in the middle of March last year.

if you put biology/natural sciences or liberal arts as your first choice and you get into the university then you will get it 100% for sure because thats where they put all the people they cant fit from other majors into.
