My ECs are pretty weak, I play a sport year-round (think 35/52 weeks in a year) and have gotten offers from several schools, but I don't think I'm going to pursue the sport in college. The two UCs I'm thinking about applying to are UCSB and UCSC, as all the others are basically reaches (not interested in Merced or Riverside). Based on my scores, and considering I write an amazing essay, are my chances still slim?

You may get into UCSB

Thanks for the input DrGoogle, but I always assumed that SB was generally more difficult to get into than SC?

Yes it is but you might get in.

You will probably be rejected by UCSB. If you want a good chance of being accepted by UCSB, you must either have a good GPA (which is impossible for you) or an extremely high SAT (2200+, which is unlikely for you) to make up for a low GPA.

You need to calculate your UC GPA, see link: http://rogerhub.com/
If your UC GPA comes out to 4.0 or higher, you have a chance at UCSB but for now I would say it is a low reach

I think UCSC is a Match since your GPA/SAT are near the 50th percentile range.

You really should consider UCR since they are an up and coming UC campus.
Write great essays and retake the SAT if possible.

You will need to look at some safeties such as your local Cal State.
Good Luck.
