How wold you describe Amherst students? On our visit to Carleton the students were cheerful and friendly but we visited Amherst on Easter and there were no students around so it was hard to get a sense of the atmosphere.

Beeboo, if my daughter (Amherst grad) could stay there forever, she would. Does that answer your question? :)

That sounds wonderful. What does she like most about it?

Hi Beeboo6, S is a very happy Freshman at Amherst and has found students to be very friendly. Of course he is closest to his floormates, but I suspect this is to be expected.
I think his favorite thing about Amherst is how very accesible his professors are. It is very common that a few students will go to office hours and the prof spends over an hour in an intimate in depth discussion . Review sessions in the evenings and weekends are commonplace before an exam, as are emails with personal feedback on assignments. Most recently he approached a prof because he had a conflict between 2 required classes in his intended majors. One prof spontaneously offered to teach him his class individually for the year! None of us can believe that he will have this amazing opportunity next year. Students are also invited to meet with prospective professors who are being considered for a position at the college. These are just a few of many examples in just a short time that he has been at Amherst…
Good luck!
Pm me if I can provide additional information.

No, most of us are going through existential crises and would choke on a Camus book before employing the word happy as a self-descriptor. And our friendliness is just contingent on your niceness. Most of us wouldn’t mind liking you if you are a good human being, which, surprisingly enough, is not very hard.
