I have been checking the **************.com for some comments on amherst, and many mentioned the students are snobby and hard to get along with, and the professors are arrogant and not approachable
From your experience in Amherst, is that so?

Any school will have your share of snobby kids…

No, that is not true.

totally incorrect. All of my daughter’s professors are extremely approachable and available. She has found great friends and students of all types.

No on both counts as far as I can tell. There may have been a time when Amherst was a bastion of upper class snobs, but the President and Board have an immense commitment to diversity, including I think economic diversity.

^According to the admission and financial aid staff, 54 percent of the Class of 2013 are receiving “scholarship and grant aid,” and 28 percent are from “low-income families.”

18 percent of the College’s students are receiving Pell Grants, and according to Washington Monthly’s Ranking, which rates institutions on such factors as the recruitment and graduation of low-income students, Amherst places first among LACs (with Holyoke at 2, Smith at 6).

As to whether both the students and the professors are all disagreeable, well, I disagree.

Seeing as how kwu is a student at Amherst…take him as an example of the snobbiest kid on campus. :)

Yeah there’s some snobby people everywhere. But there’s probably tons of nice people too! :)
