Oh yes, I’ll shoot you a PM. I got excited because there aren’t too many people to talk about privates with.

Cool. I don’t really see you as competition. I figured the competition is between us and how the adcoms perceive our apps. I guess there would be a bit of competition if you and I were exactly the same person and they had to find some way to differentiate our apps. But at the end of the day, we’ve submitted and I don’t mind sharing my experiences with a fellow traveler.

I had way too many classes so I got an AA in Psych and in Liberal arts all I had to do was take the school’s Library 4 Info Competancy 1 unit class which was required for transfer anyway so yeah why not. I’m doing it for the same reason SMC is, 2 more thingies to hang on the wall. And at Graduation if I’d been able to get things handled last year I’d have been a perminant member of AGS and gotten the nice gold stole.

I’m getting mine next year, since I’ll need it for an internship.

I’m one (2 Unit) P.E. class away from getting my AA in Liberal Arts with Emphasis in Social and Behavioral Sciences.

I’ll be taking the P.E. class in the Summer and I’m proud of earning an AA. It gives me a sense of accomplishment and I don’t give a rat’s ass if it gives me any practical value.

I think the growth of High School Diploma -> AA Degree -> BA in Political Science -> Juris Doctor is a nice evolution. Maybe there’s an LLM in my future, since those degrees only take 1 year. (God knows what specification I’d get the LLM in. Haven’t thought too much about that but I’ll focus on my undergrad for now.)

Actually, I forgot to mention that my AA made a real difference at the state flagship I transferred to.

Anyone transferring in with an AA/AS was automatically considered by admissions to have completed all lower-division core general education requirements. If you transferred in with just course credits, that wasn’t the case.

Hayward,

That path does look nice. Are you at Chabeezy?

Yes I am. Chabot College, it’s a decent school. 43 transferable units by the end this Spring under my belt. Allllllmooooosssst there haha!

Yup. Planning to substitute while I’m in college for extra cash.

I got my IGETC completed after a year at my CC, and will get an AA in General Studies - Emphasis in Social Sciences this spring when I graduate. I only needed to take two extra (and easy) classes and I had room, so why not? Two years at a CC with IGETC, the CSU equivalent (b/c there was a possibility that I might go to a CSU), an AA, and TAG to the UC I want to transfer to? Sounds plenty good to me :). Plus like a few people mentioned, if SOMETHING happened where I had to leave a 4-year for a bit, at least I’d have something to show employers…

Hayward,

Is the roach coach still there? I had a friend who was addicted to the chicken and broccoli over rice.

I only need 1 more class (business law) to get an A.S. in Business Administration, if my school offers it in the summer, I’ll do it.

Another benefit to getting an AA or AS degree is that you don’t have to check off “some college” on surveys or applications when asked about education levels. When I transfered long ago from Chabot, I was .5 PE credits short of my AA. But in general, IGETC is the way to go.

Hadn’t really considered doing this, but after reading this thread and researching my schools req. I have decided to do it. I have all of the classes done so why not.
On a side note, I dont have to “walk” to get my AA do I? Could be a deal breaker…

i think im getting an aa degree in math…

I don’t think you have to walk to get your degree.

I’m getting mine in English and am one art class short of getting another in liberal arts. I figured completing prereqs in communications for my double major would be a better use of the three units :)

Can you finish your AA after transfering? I just needed health science and nutrition, but I couldn’t get those classes this semester. Can I take health and nutrition in the summer and get my AA sometime next fall? But I don’t care for it either way.

I will be getting one in Biology and one in Chemistry.

“Can you finish your AA after transferring?”

@HeatherBecca

I want to know as well. Has anyone here completed an AA degree after transferring to a four year university? Is it possible to go back to community college for one semester to get an AA degree? I think I have one class I need to finish to get an AA in English.

^Yes I believe it is entirely possible.
