Kinda stings that I didn’t get into UTA, but it’s ok. I’m seriously considering accepting my UT CAP offer and attending UTSA my freshman year, but I’m not sure whether it’s the ~right~ choice seeing as I’ve taken so many AP classes. So far I’ve gotten 5’s on the World History, US History, European History, English Lang, and German APs, and 4’s on Calculus and Physics 1. I’m also signed up to take AP Human Geo, Macroecon, Gov, and English Lit this year. As I understand it, these credits would all transfer over my sophomore year, but wouldn’t count towards my 30 hour CAP requirement, meaning I’d have to make up several prerequisites that I wouldn’t have to if I were to go to A&M or Trinity. Is guaranteed admission worth it, or should I just apply as a transfer student and hope for the best? For context, I’m hoping to major in history, and would prefer to immediately start taking history courses that count towards my major instead of paying thousands for prerequisites I’ve technically already checked off… thoughts?
You can pretty much claim your AP credit at most, if not all colleges in Texas. What’s a rough estimate of the college credit hours you would have with them? if you have a true interest in UTSA, then definitely consider CAP since you’re interested in a guaranteed major, but please know that UT usually has a limited of CAP agreements with UTSA & UT Arlington so you would need to be logged in and ready to submit an agreement as it closes very quickly
(Seconds if not minutes). Texas A&M & Trinity are excellent places to be so my advice is Explore them more because with all of the CAP requirements and the difficultly of being a first year college student, it is a risk.
We’re wondering the same thing over here so following. My daughter’s hs counselor says she has like 23 hours.
You can claim the credit, but you have to take 30h off the CAP course list, so you may either have to a) retake a course you took an AP for or b) take weird courses off the CAP list to avoid a retake. You can also wait until you get to UT to claim the credits, but I’m willing to bet that most CAP schools award more for AP tests (UT is a little stingy here.) Source: 2 friends doing CAP, one is re-taking Government this semester because he needs 30 hours.
