I'd like to know for Biology and U.S. History in particular. Thanks

Actually I found it to be the other way round -- the sat ii's are harder than the Aps for bio and us history. I think it might be because a 5 on the APs encompasses a wide range of scores while for the sats iis the number reflects a smaller range. Also, the the mc on the APs seem to test your understanding of concepts while the mc on the sat iis is more small facts that either you know or you don't. For me, it was also a plus that the Aps have essays. Not everyone feels this way, but I thought that the essays give you more of a chance to show what you know, something that is harder to do with an all mc test.

I took the AP and SAT II for biology and I thought that the AP was much harder (as seen in my scores - 3 and 710)

Last Bump :)

I think it is a lot easier to get a 5 on the AP US History test than an 800 on the SATII. This is mainly because of the scale on the AP. You can know some general facts and trends and score a 5 on the AP. But for the SATII, you need to know quite a lot of information, random facts, and trends to get a perfect score.

That said, the difficulty of the MC of the AP US History test is a bit harder than that of the SATII. The AP questions are a little trickier and require more thought than the more straight-forward SATII questions.

AP's are almost always harder than SAT II's however the way their scored makes them much more forgiving, since you can get quite a few wrong and still get the perfect score of 5 or a great score of 4.

Yes they are.

:)

I think that while it is easier to get a 5 on the APUS test than an 800 on the SAT II's, the AP test feels harder because of essays

I found SAT II US History much harder than the AP test. but depends.. SAT II doesn't have an essay so if you're a good writer it's the opposite. my history writing was really bad. stream of consciousness.. hehe

SAT II for US History seems to have lots of trivial facts on it according to my daughter. She claims that the only reason she made 800 on it was because her brilliant teacher was the type to randomly share history trivia with the class daily. When she completed the SAT II, she commented that Mr. So and So had mentioned every single fact that appeared on that test at one time or another in class! One question in particular asked about the political message behind The Wizard of Oz movie! Her teacher had actually shared that with the class completely out of the blue one day!

Wow, parentofteen, it seems as if I had the same exact exprience as your daughter. I was surprised at the number of trivial facts that were tested this year in June. But I also had a really great teacher who mentioned nearly all of those facts, including the Wizard of Oz populist message. I was so glad that my teacher was so throrugh, and I also scoed 800.

ya i took the SAT II US history test and AP US HIstory tests 2 days within each other in may and the SAT II test had a lot more trivial multiple choice questions, but the MC were mostly straightforward

I must disagree. I took the May one of 2005 and it was the same difficulty as AP. Some of the questions were the same. General trends and maybe a few trivial things one in particular about 60's t.v. shows but it was really easy. I mean my teacher was not very good and I just took the SAT II kind of as a joke to see what I would get without studying and ended up scoring really high. It all depends on how you retain historical info. I can do it fairly well. On the other hand I can not remember how to do math and so I bomb every single SAT math section.
