I have the option to take an external course at my high school. However, only 1 may be a core curriculum class if you are pursuing an advanced diploma and only 2 can be a core if you’re pursuing a standard diploma.
The classes I wish to take online are three of the following:
AP Psych
AP World
AP Human Geography
AP French
AP Bio
And potentially AP Micro/Micro, but it could be a self-study course.
core would be English, math, science, history/social science, and foreign language. All the ones you’ve listed fall into those categories.
@skieurope Is foreign language and social science really considered a core area? Language maybe, but I never considered social sciences to be one.
Foreign Languages are required for advanced diploma, but not for Standard. They count as an elective, I think.
I checked our handbook, and they said there were 4 core academic disciplines in regards to EOC tests. No mention of social sciences and foreign languages.
@skieurope Sorry! Edited my post before my phone updated and I saw your latest post.
Does it still count after seeing what it says in the schools’ handbook?
Checked with my GC. She says foreign language and social sciences are considered electives. I guess what is a ‘core’ class depends on your school/county/state.
No, SkiEurope means what COLLEGES consider “core” for admission.
Colleges want to see 4 years each of English, Math, Foreign Language, History/Social Science, and Science.
If your school doesn’t consider Languages and History/Social Science “core”, all the better since it means you can take it online since they won’t “count” for your HS, but they WILL count for colleges!
I would advise AP Bio, AP French, and one among the last 3.
However, are you sure you can handle 3 AP classes on top of your schedule?
