are awards very important?

i basically have 0 awards and i will never know if i will even get one. will that affecct my chances for admission (or for anybody?)

awards meaning?
1. Academic
2. Extra Curricular
3. Financial

Which one? or do u mean all 3?

same here lol

a lack of awards won't hurt. there are is a very limited number of awards out there. it's meant more for those ridiculous people that get them. if u discount all those bs awards like 'honor roll', most ppl will have one at most..

one common one is national merit stuff, and nhs stuff as well. just if ur wondering.

what schools do you want to go to?
don't forget top schools accept mostly "ridiculous people" that get things like awards.
and i don't know..i heard a lot about how you shouldn't write crap awards like honor roll or who's who. unless you're not applying to any really competitive schools like ivies

Well, depending on where you are applying, it can hurt. There is this not very good admissions book that says that the only way into schools like Harvard is to get a national award or something like that.

national? urghh.

That's not a very good admissions book. That's discouraging and ignorant and pessimistic.

Though half of the time, pessimistism=reality.

i think it comes down to the fact that u can always have a good application without awards and not have a good application with awards. and also, there are ridiculous ppl that get into top notch colleges, and then there are the ridiculous ppl among them (ie, future top of class at these top-notch places).. i was referring to the latter..
