This semester, I’ve finished with straight B’s and I was wondering, how are B’s generally viewed.
Good
A 3.0 GPA is the minimum required to get job and internship interviews. If you are planning on medical school you can forget it with a .3.0 GPA.
Depends on classes. Not that bad for STEM, kinda low for humanities
Why do you say low for humanities?
Good for most purposes. For hiring out of college, many companies use a 3.0 cutoff GPA as part of initial screening for who gets to interview.
However, pre-med and pre-law students will find B and B+ grades too low to get into a medical school or top-ranked law school (law employment is very sensitive to law school ranking).
Bs get degrees! The whole point is to earn a degree. Way better than Fs. If you want to improve your grades, seek resources to help you. Academic support services, classmates, TAs, professors during office hours, online resources, etc. Also work on honing study skills and test taking skills. But, Bs are perfectly acceptable grades.
I would say B’s are pretty good, great if you are in a difficult major and/or in a selective college where high grades are harder to get (selective colleges are harder to get good grades in because classes are curved so the smarter/more hardworking the student body the harder it will be to get a certain grade). It’s not like high school where people can get straight A’s no problem, college you have to pretty much be an expert in the material to get an A in a class (well except for some introductory humanities classes—from my experience those classes tend to not be curved so everyone can get a good grade and seem to grade more on participation).
However, if you are interested in going to medical school B’s or want to be admitted into a competitive major program that has a minimum gpa requirement higher than 3.0 then you might need to worry a bit more…
Really depends on your major and career plans. If you have plans for med school your gpa is low.
Depends on the classes, program, and your goals. A B in a tough STEM weeder class is a great grade, but not so much an easy elective.
My GPA is 3.370
It looks like you are trying to get affirmation from strangers that you are doing a great job in college. That affirmation needs to come from within. None of us know the details of what classes you are taking, what your future goals are, how hard you are working to succeed etc. Do your best and be satisfied with that.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: I don’t think there’s anything that can be added at this point. Closing thread.
