Are club teams hard to make at Cornell?

I am particularly interested in womens lacrosse or soccer. My daughter is a pretty good hs player but not good enough to play at the Varsity level but choosing a school that she can play club is very important to her. Thanks in advance.

Yes, it’s pretty competitive. The club teams at schools that also have a varsity team are usually pretty competitive. Cornell club lacrosse plays in a lower division (D2), but most of the teams in D2 have D1 varsity teams.

Cornell will be hard just because lax is very popular in NY so there are a lot of girls who grew up playing. The team is ranked in the top 20 of the lower division, but that doesn’t say how many girls try out for the team.

DO you mean they are an actual d2 teams - as in they play other d2 teams - or do they play other schools club teams?

No, they play in the D2 level of club teams. The club teams can choose the level to play in. D2 Club team ranks from 2 weeks ago. You can see most teams play at the Varsity D1 level (Denver, Loyola, Providence) while some don’t have D1 women’s lacrosse, just a club team (Utah State, Air Force). Grand Valley actually plays D2 in Varsity.

It may not be as hard to make the Cornell team as I thought, since they play in the lower division. It really just depends on how many want to try out. My daughter goes to a school where it is pretty hard to make the men’s club hockey team but anyone can join the women’s team. Some club teams are really competitive, others aren’t.
