I know that they can from year to year, but can they change it a few days after I accept my package? That sounds fishy to me.

How big is the change? Did they require you to verify your family’s incomes?

Did they just get updated numbers from your parents? Or financials which verified the FAFSA/Profile?

Call and ask. This happened to DD once.,she had accepted her financial aid package, and got an email about something being taken away. Turns out it was a computer glitch…and an error. It was corrected the following day to the original offer.

Thanks for the responses. They added a $2000 loan so its not that much, but they also took away a grant (that’s a seperate issue) so we’re paying $7000 more. They said it was based on “updated information” but I haven’t sent them anything since the FAFSA priority deadline. I don’t think my parents sent anything else, but I’ll ask. I also think that the extra loan puts me at $2000 over the cost of attendence, so hopefully it was just a glitch. I remember reading that tuition was going up, but I can’t remember by how much. I did email fin aid, but they obviously can’t get back to me until tomorrow.

What I really want to know is if colleges are legally able to intentionally change financial aid packages after they’ve been accepted. They are giving me the chance to reaccept it, but it doesn’t seem right.

Yes they can change them. I believe if update information is received, or they find an error, they are required to make the change (at least for FAFSA purposes).
