Are Community College Classes Generally Easier?

Has anyone had experience attending community college and a "regular" four-year institution?

I'm at a four-year school, but looking to possibly take some CC classes over the summer to save on some costs and knock out some creds. I've heard people say that usually CC courses are easier and less demanding that "regular" university courses.

My only concern would be whether to take a class that could be part of my future major at a CC if this is true. I would be worried about whether I'd be getting the depth of material needed. Any thoughts from your experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Depends on the professor. I’ve had CC professors who also taught at universities and basically expected the same of CC students as university students.

CC tends to be easier, but it’s not necessarily a walk in the park. It’ll depend a bit on the classes, professors, and schools as well.

Make sure you check in to the transferability of credits. Your 4-year school may not accept CC credits for courses in your major, and may have other restrictions on accepting CC credits (especially if you’re at a private school). Don’t spend the money unless you’ve first verified the credits will be accepted.

Well, it depends. When it is curved to the highest score, some of the community college students are actually pretty mean compared to a 4-year university! Oh, and a class might be based on only tests and quizzes, and this CC professor happens to write one with the most ridiculously long / tedious problems, some of them impossible and won’t say unless someone notices, and won’t give you extra time for the mistake, etc…
