Since there are so many undergraduate students in Engineering here,I would like to know how important is drawing or arts skill in Engineering? In which engineering is it most essential and in which is it the least significant? I am near to pathetic in these skills

P.S. I will be joining undergraduate this fall of 2013.

I’m a materials engineer and absolutely atrocious at drawing. I have a difficult time making a cube. It hasn’t been a problem.

If you are making any important structural / design drawings, it will likely be done on a computer. The only exception might be civil engineering, but I have never heard of anyone having difficulty in engineering due to poor drawing skills

What field of engineering are you into? If, for example, you were going as an imagineer at Walt Disney, I believe you would need some high level of art skill.

I am not doing civil engineering; might be doing electrical or mechanical engineering. Will drawing skills be important in these fields? Once again, I am just about the worst creature in drawing skills especially free-hand drawings.

It won’t be a deal breaker. You’ll probably learn a little bit about how to do a very rough sketch for when you’re trying to brainstorm with groupmates, but for anything “serious” you’ll wind up doing it on a computer.

Thank you for all of your responses. That means I am not certainly going to be an incompetent engineer. :)
