Are EC'S a "make it or break it"?

I'm a junior with a 3.86 GPA, have honors and AP classes under my belt (with more planned for senior year).
But my EC's a little low. I really only have choir, president of the French Club, animal shelter volunteer work, and radio station on air volunteering.
Hypothetically, if I were to maintain that GPA (or something near it), and do decent on my SAT's (at least an 1800, but I'm shooting for higher), do I stand a chance to get accepted into universities (I'm talking strictly state here, Ivy's are not for me lol).

State university with a 3.86 GPA and 1800+ should be more than enough with those ECs. As long as your activities sheet isn’t completely blank and you have at least 1 EC that you’ve devoted yourself to, state colleges are happy. A school like MIT, on the other hand, you need to have researched cures for cancer and developed your own world famous programming language as ECs to get accepted (in addition to a 4.0 + 2400, that is).

^Thanks! I tell ya that gave me a feeling of relief xD. And that last part made me chuckle :)

EC’s really only play a major role for very selective private schools like the Ivies. State schools are much more focused on grades and test scores, and some don’t even consider EC’s in admissions
