So apparently computer science courses are restricted so that only computer science majors can take computer science courses. Does this same principle apply to electrical engineering? If I major in computer science, I would like to be able to take a couple of electrical engineering courses along the way.

Online registration to these courses is limited to ECE majors.

However, you CAN register for this course. To do this, you should contact both the professor and the Advising Office, explaining your situation. The adviser has the ability to lift your registration bar for the course.

^I’ll confirm this for added assurance. It’s not that easy, though. They didn’t like it when I tried to do it. Make sure to come in a good month ahead of registration when you do so.

So I have to ask the course’s professor and the Advising Office every time I want to take an EE course?

Yes. Which are you considering?

Does this limiting rule apply to every major’s courses? i.e. only psychology majors can take psychology courses.

Oh I’m not a student at UT yet. I just wanted to know for future reference heh.

As far as I know, it applies to all engineering and business school classes as well as most upper division (post-intro) courses of every major.
