Hi, on the University of Illinois' website it shows the two essay topics under admission requirements. I was just wondering if anyone knew whether these will be the same topics for the upcoming applications in september? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes, they are. They are the same every year, I believe. Those were the prompts for my essays, and they were the prompts for last year’s applicants as well.

where did you find the prompts? i cant find them on the website.

Scroll down to “Essays.”

thank you!

Alright Thank god. I had spent a decent amount of time on my 2 essays and didn’t want it to be for nothing. Thanks for the reassurance

Essay 1 about academic interests and goals has been around in one form or another for many decades and you should expect to see that one. Essay 2 about extracurriculars was first used last year and replaced one that asked your potential contribution to the diversity of UIUC. A second essay has itself only been around five years. Whether the extracurricular essay will be the second one this year has still not been finally determined.

So will the essays and the application officially come out on August 1st?

^Only if they change what they have been doing for decades since the application usually comes out in September.

It would probably be alright to start the essays now (if you wish) on the assumption that the topics will be the same as they have been in the past few years. Even if there is a change (which I believe isn’t likely, but perhaps it may happen) it won’t exactly be a loss considering that the essay prompts are rather standard and likely to show up in some form again as you apply to other schools or for scholarships.
