Are Fordham Students Required to ... um... pledge not to engage in lustful activities?

I haven’t been able to find any information online about this. I know that many Jesuit schools require that students sign an honor code. Fordham is the first private school that I am very much considering. As someone with a non-religious background, is there anything that you can tell me about the atmosphere at Fordham?

One of the houses makes you pledge to abstain from drugs and drinking. Don’t believe there’s any other major code, they don’t force religion on anyone.

@julia1611 Okay, thank you!

My Jewish daughter felt very comfortable at LC. You have to take a few religion classes, but you have lots of choices as to which class to take.

@LeftyLou Thank you!

Plenty of “lustful activities” going around on campus. There are some quirks to a Jesuit school but they can be worked around (ex. birth control isn’t dispensed at Health Services, but students figure out where the drug store down the street is etc).

In general I’d say that one should be respectful of religion, but certainly you don’t have to be religious or Catholic to attend and feel comfortable at Fordham. You will have to take 2 theology and 2 philosophy classes as part of the core curriculum. There are crucifixes and religious symbols on campus. But IMO the Jesuits are very open – they are educators first and foremost. They don’t force Catholicism on anyone but it is present for those who wish to take part in religious based activities. Most students were not especially religious and chose Fordham primarily for the quality of education, location etc.

And yes, there is some substance free housing where you must agree to the guidelines in place to live there but that’s about it. Nobody is placed into a wellness community who does not request to be there.

I’d suggest you visit and see if you feel comfortable on campus.

@spirit77 Thanks for the response!

I plan on visiting Fordham soon! While I’m not Catholic, I find the Jesuit system very neat, since it places such high regard on both the education of one’s heart and mind.
