Are Freshman allowed to have cars?

Are Freshman allowed to have cars for work, travel, etc.?
If not, then how do most Freshman get around? For off-campus work?

Nope. Most people work on or near campus. It’d be pretty hard for you to find an off-campus job that pays as much as on-campus jobs (minimum $11/hour).

Sophomores and above are allowed cars. But parking is terrible. Only a few of my friends had cars.

Hardly any undergraduates have cars. When I was an undergrad, I had a car for part of the time, and I only used it to leave for breaks. Wait, I used it one time to go to a movie. That’s it.

Freshman can bring cars to school, however, it’s expensive to park, and all Yale students have access to Zip Cars, so most student’s do not have cars on-campus. See: [Student Parking | to.yale.edu](<a href=“Parking Options | It's Your Yale”>Parking Options | It's Your Yale)

I withdraw my post as Gibby has more up to date info.

I would think that a car would be much more trouble than it’s worth. And as gibby said, ZipCars are readily available. My kid uses them when he needs them for things like a run to Best Buy, IKEA, etc.

I can’t even imagine where you would park a car if you had one. My daughter spent the summer in NH doing research and it was only practical to have her car there because the house had a lot in the back where she could put it. Otherwise it is metered parking or (I imagine) very expensive monthly lot rental.

Parking starts at about $100 per month (10 blocks from campus). Save your money. You do not need a car and like others said, there is the Zip Car. Or if you need to run errands, cabs are great in the area and 2 round trips a month would be less than the $100 per month parking which you can usually share with 2 or 3 classmates.

Thanks gibby and everyone else who replied!
