I haven’t really had time to visit or talk to AOs so I’m wondering if anyone has recently(2016-2020) talked to any CMU AOs to confirm whether or not freshman grades are considered. Not looking for speculation or opinions, just for actual sources.
The fact that they require 4 years of certain subjects would indicate that they will look at all four years of high school grades. The website is the ultimate source of information.

“High School Course Requirements
4 years English
4 years Mathematics*
1 year Chemistry
1 year Physics
1 year Biology
2 years Foreign Language
3 electives”
@TomSrOfBoston This provides me with zero information. Schools obviously require certain courses to be taken to even be considered; Stanford and UC Berkeley both require 4 years of many subjects but freshman grades are not considered and not included when recalculating GPA. An admissions officer at CMU told me/us back in 2015? that freshman grades were given 0 weight. Im just wondering if someone has a more recent source to further confirm this.
We toured CMU in ‘17 with my D. No one said freshman grades weren’t considered.
Why not call the CMU admissions office Monday morning.
No one told us they weren’t considered on our tour in 2018.
@TomSrOfBoston hmm do you think email will work?
@TomSrOfBoston I took 3 years of honors english before taking 2 half yr English courses to fulfill my school’s 4 yr requirement. Will CMU count those, so I qualify for admission?
