I was recently accepted to Georgetown Early Action. I have visited the school and loved the campus. However, I have talked to multiple people who know someone who has dropped out because once they got there they did not like the school. Can any current Georgetown students or others with experience comment? Thank You!

Hi
My son is a freshman in SFS. He absolutely loves it there and is very happy with his choice. I imagine every college has people who love it and hate it, but when we visited for parents weekend, we met most of his friends and dorm mates and everyone was happy and enjoying their time there. Go visit and follow your instincts. Good luck and Congrats!

Well, 96% of Georgetown freshmen stick around for the following year:

So, there ya go.

But don’t let statistics stand in the way of a good story. ;)

I have to echo laserp’s post except that our son is a sophomore in the College. Georgetown was not his original top choice but his mind was changed during the April admitted student visit. He has never looked back and couldn’t be happier. I have to say the same for his roomate and his friends that we have met on parent visits. Good luck.

My daugthter graduated GU this past May. Let’s just say she was very sad to go and so were all her friends. She had a fabulous 4 years and we, as parents are very happy she attended Georgetown. She was back on campus for homecoming this year and has attended several Georgetown alumni events so the connection is still strong. A group of about 50 recent graduates got together over the Christmas holiday. She is a proud alumni.

My D is a freshman in College. She is very stressed by course work, at the same time, she is very happy she is at Georgetown. She often says that she already dreads the day of graduation because she enjoys Georgetown so much.

Agree with above. S is first year at MSB. Loves it, many friends, so much to do on campus and in Washington. S does not know of anyone who is planning to drop out/transfer.

The Princeton Review looks at how happy students are in a “Quality of Life Ranking”. The survey is filled out by students and looks at 10 areas and scores schools on a scale of 60-99 (the higher the better). 2012 results:

Duke 70
Cal-B 71
Northwestern 73
Hopkins 78
USC 79
Georgetown 80
Notre Dame 81
UPenn 87
UVA 88
Vanderbilt 98
Emory 98
Rice 99

S graduated from Georgetown in 2010. I can’t recall him speaking of any friends, acquaintances, dorm-mates who transferred out. Yes, there were probably moments of uncertainty and doubt, but that’s typical at many schools. S and his friends absolutely loved their time at Georgetown. On New Year’s Eve, for the third year in a row, a gang of them all gathered in New York to celebrate their friendship and the new year. Several of them flew in from the west coast. Georgetown is a very special place. You will never forget or regret your time there.

Senior in the college here. As is generally true in life, you will be as happy or as unhappy as you choose to be.

This morning, I put my son on a plane to return to Georgetown after the holiday break. He was really looking forward to getting back. He told everyone he saw here at home over the break that he really loves Georgetown. When he was making his decison about what college to attend, he spent a lot of time talking to GU students. Their love of the school definitely influenced him, and, consequently, he made a decision with which he is very happy.
