Are HBCU's academically inferior?

Please don’t call me a racist. It is just that I have a friend who got a 29 on the ACT and is seriously talking about going to Howard over WashUinSt.Louis. Would you say that this is a wise choice? How about clark over UChicago?

It depends on what it is that s/he is looking for in a college and from their college experience. If student is looking ot work in DC, then Howard would be a better choice.

As far as recruting after graduations many big firms go to howard, along with morehouse and spelman to recruit AA's because they know that they will be there. I know a young woman who turned down Harvard to attend Howard and has not once regretted her decision.

Top I-Banks and Firms recruit heavily from HBCUs.

be real Howard has a waaay bigger name than WashUinSt.Louis. Big firms recruit at HBCUs and if you do really well at Howard your set for life. I got a 31 on the ACT and I’m going to Howard over Columbia, Barnard, Conn College & Brown. I got a full ride scholarship and they are really strong in the major I want to pursue. The networking you’ll get there is prob bigger than any other school. Think before you judge. An HBCU has MANY benefits so educate yourself before you talk crap please.

The Howard University MBA program has been named sixth on the U.S. News and World Report list of “10 M.B.A.s With Most Financial Value at Graduation.” The list ranks the 10 business programs where graduates earn the most in their first year relative to their debt load. Howard is the only Historically Black College and University on the list and is also listed in the top 100 schools in the U.S. News Business School ranking.

I think it depends on the HBCU. As mentioned above, Howard, Morehouse, and Spellman are heavily recruited. Are all HBCU’s well recruited? Probably not. So, I think it depends on the school.

By no means is Howard a bigger name than Washington University. No need to tear down another institution in an attempt to support Howard. Talented Howard grads do very well on their own, I’m sure, without the bravado in post #4. By the way, WUSTL has significant connections in Washington D.C. government and political circles.

Back to the original question; it’s too broad. Some HBCUs are stronger than others. For example Spelman College is one of the best liberal arts colleges in the nation, period!

Pulled this from another forum, there are a number of HBCU’s on both of these list…

Boeing’s top colleges
This is the list of universities that Boeing offers scholarships for. You must be a student at one of these universities to recieve a scholarship so I am going to assume that these are the schools that they found their most productive workers come from. I was not able to find the supposed “rank of colleges” by boeing.

That datapoint ONLY reflects the ratio of debt to salary. While relevant to some, it does not represent a qualitative measurement nor a compelling comparative point. There are many variables to the debt at graduation, starting with people who do not borrow to attend school.
