I'm a secondary school (high school in the US) student living in the Netherlands. I would like to go to the MIT, but I am afraid that they will not like my high school grades. I have a GPA of 7,3, 1 is the lowest and 10 is the highest possible. I rank third in my class, but I have an extremely busy life. The highest GPA is 7,5, which still is very close to mine GPA. A 10, which is considered flawless and perfect here is, almost impossible and it's very rare.

I have looked up sample SAT subject test math II, and I believe they aren't really hard. I believe i can get a 730-800 for math II, but I'm not sure about the physics test but i hope above 750.

If I get awesome SAT subject test scores, will MIT ignore my "bad" high school grades? I believe no high school grades are comparable, especially of foreign schools. An A at school x could be an C+ at school y.

And please correct my English, if you see any errors. :) I will do the TOEFL as well.

MIT will consider each application in context. In many European schools a score of 74 out of 100 is a very strong A. I do not think you have anything to worry about. If you rank 3rd in your class, that alone should tell MIT how to interpret your grades. Do not worry.

I take it you’re at least in VWO with a technical profile? If so, what are your grades for math, physics and chemistry? The GPA is nothing to worry about, since there is no such concept in Dutch schools. It might be good to note that for one of the most popular majors (geneeskunde) an average grade of 8.5 is an instant acceptance. Though I don’t know which subjects are used for that average.

As for the SAT, the math II has easier questions than the math VWO exam, but it also has a ton of questions. Physics might have some special relativity questions which you probably haven’t studied yet in school. So you might want to prepare for that by doing timed practice tests on e.g. SparkNotes.

yes, I am doing VWO with Latin with a technical profile. I got a 5,7 for Latin btw, lol.
Nick, are you attending MIT? If so, or if you were rejected, please tell me what your average grade (final exams not included) when you were at high school.

Awesome that my rank also gives a view of me. I thought third is considered low, but I interpret you think that is good.

Third is only really considered low when your class size is 3. I don’t think you have anything to worry about GPA-wise. You just need to focus on your test scores & essays now.
Are you applying this year, or next year?
