I am an Indian CBSE aaplicant. Since I haven't been preparing for competitive exams (for Engineering), I thought HKUST and HKU were a good choice since they consider only the board exam results. However, I have read that the rankings are fake. HKUST is amongst the best in Asia according to the rankings but some say that the unis pay for getting their names on the charts. Is this true? If yes, perhaps I should prepare for competitive exams.
Is Hong Kong is really good destination for UG in Science/Engineering? Do graduates really make it to MIT,Harvard etc for post-grad as the websites suggest or is it all fake? Are the QS World Rankings trust worthy? PLEASE DO REPLY incase you happen to know ANYTHING at all. :)

Hi there!

I am a student at one of the HK unis you’ve mentioned. Hong Kong is a great place from undergrad. Engineering is extremely popular with Indian students here, and the facilities and resources here at your disposal are also great. However, the academic environment is extremely competitive as some really brilliant Chinese (mainland) students study here and since the exams are graded on a curve, getting good grades can be tough. Rankings are a subjective matter, however, HKU and HKUST are well known in Asia, so I encourage you to apply. International students have really increased over the past two years so the environment has gotten better in terms of diversity

Thanks for the info! Can I PM you? I have some questions to ask, I promise I won’t take too much of your time.

Yeah. Go ahead.
