Are honors classes easier?

Hey guys-

I'm currently a rising sophomore, and while I'm not in the honors program, the small classes are making me want to take a couple of them, namely BIOL 101h and CHEM 102h. The only thing that I'm worried about is the difficulty of these courses. When I look at pickaprof, I notice that the honors sections have drastically higher average GPAs than the normal sections. Is this because the kids are, on average, smarter, or is the course actually easier to make an A in?

Thanks in advance.

You know what, here’s my theory -

They might be a little harder, but they’re curved in your favor. Econ 101 has the same thing going on. And Phil H170 was pretty easy as long as you did the work. But doing the work was hard, I guess.

I would sa,y if you’re going to take a class and the honors section is available, take it. And I’ll be in bio h101 next semester!

they are curved up. its ridiculous actually…the “smarter” kids get an easier ride…doesnt really make sense but whatever

^ Honors classes are filled with kids brighter than the average person in a regular class section. Wouldn’t it make sense that the grade distribution is more skewed toward 'A’s than the non-honors classes? I don’t think it’s fair to say they get an easier ride because they’re in honors.

Ephemeral, you make a good point. However, I think ns347 is right.

While honors kids are more likely to make A’s, the skew is quite ridiculous.

Most honors kids are probably pretty likely to make an A in the normal section as well…just sayin’.
