Are IGETC Certiifcation and final transcript different?

Quick background info, I go to El Camino College and I'm transferring to UCI this fall. First two official transcripts are free, everything after is $5.

I sent an official transcript in May or June but UCI counted it as "Partial Transcript received" since it wasn't my final transcript. When I sent it, I filled out a form for both IGETC certification AND final transcript form.

I went back two weeks ago and filled out both forms and the lady told me that it'll cost me $5 since I'm requesting two transcripts and I already requested one before. She told me that IGETC certification is a final transcript too, just with IGETC Certified on it. So I told her to just send in the IGETC one since there's no point in me mailing them two transcripts.

But is the IGETC certification really the final transcript? Because it's been like two weeks and it doesn't say UCI received it on my portal. I sent my high school transcript on the same day and they received it like over a week ago.

Colleges (especially CCCs), can take a while to send transcripts. Also, the IGETC certification process and evaluation can take a while. And also remember that colleges receiving transcripts don’t post right away when they receive them.

I don’t know if this applies to your school, but at my CC the application/form for IGETC certification and the final transcript are two different forms. The IGETC certification application will start the process of certifying your GE’s. On my CC’s final transcript form, there was a little section that that said, “HOLD for IGETC certification”. Did you check this box the first time you sent for your transcripts? If it is on your CC’s form and you did not check it, your CC’s Admissions office will not wait for your IGETC certification to be posted and they will send your final without the stating you are certified.

As LAforlife stated, certification is its own process and it takes time. It seems your CC is finally holding your transcript until it has been IGETC certified, so that is probably the reason why it has been awhile.

I don’t know whether or not the IGETC certification is considered a final transcript, but I assume that if you are certified, you stated you will/are certified in you UC App, and your “final” transcript does not state you are certified, then your “final” transcript is not really “final” because it is not complete. Again, this is just what I think and I am not 100% sure. I am also an admitted transfer for fall 2012 and I sent my transcripts awhile back. My status says, “Fall 2011 recevied” rather than “Partial transcript” and I did check the box that said, “HOLD my transcript for IGETC certification” when I sent my transcripts.
