I ask because I plan on applying to Harvard, Yale, Duke, UPenn, UChicago, NU, etc. and I've heard for those schools being "Asian" hurts more than it helps because they are expecting all Asians to score well, have good ECs, and take rigorous schedules. Would all this apply to me too, since India is part of Asia? Or do adcoms not consider Indians in their pool of Asian applicants?

So basically, are they being politically correct or not?

Yes, you are Asian as part of your application. Common app allows you to mark yourself as Indian.

Well I know that, but I meant does this put me at a disadvantage? Do Ivies consider all Indians to have spectacular ECs/rigorous schedules/tons of APs/outstanding scores like they do for the Asians not part of the Indian subcontinent?

The answer is yes and no. Ivies don’t expect something from you but as a pool of Asians being capped at 15-17% at the Ivies, you will find yourself competing against other Asians with those super traits.

There is no separate pool for Indians since they are part of the Asian group.

Okay, thanks! That stinks haha, I guess my essays shall have to be quite stellar.
