will they factor in internships during admission? how important is an internship if applying to a competitive major?

Depends on college and major. Usually a good internship will be a strong thing to put in your application, but it's by no means a requirement to get into a competitive major.

applying to a UC from a community college? not really that important and you have to be more specific.

WHich UC, which major.

It is important for HAAS. BUt not so much for UCSC for example.

for UCLA, as a communications major

I agree with the post above. Depending on the school and the major. If your shooting for a top tier Universitiy and a competitive major, then an internship is very important. However, make sure you find a legit internship. Stray away from bs, like roasting coffee or taking out the trash. You want quality.

Crazy fast responses. lol

Ucla- communication- yes.

Extremely competative, so an internship would give you a little extra.

Yeah, I'd say Communications and Biz Econ at UCLA and Haas at Berkeley is where internships would help the most. Then again, it can't hurt for any major at those schools.

ok thanks guys!

i've been working an informal internship at a family friend's law firm (10 lawyers).. about 25 hours a week, unpaid, very hands on with trial law, and i listed it on my application. will it be taken as seriously as other internships that are set up / directly interact with my college?

Sounds legit to me ^^
