Are letters of rec actual letters or is it a form?

<p>I'm confused to whether letters of rec on the common app are letters or the teacher just fills out a form where they include a short paragraph about the person. I've seen the form on an older version of the application where it has a rating table and then a place to write about the student in more detail. Or, is it actually a letter that is uploaded to the app? I thought it was an actual letter, so I may have falsely informed one of my teachers. Thanks to anyone who can clear this up!</p>

<p>However, they also have an option of writing a letter as part of that. I believe that’s how extra recs are too.</p>
