Recently I found out that someone else from my school (a large public school with ~420 in my senior class) is applying to Yale, where I also applied. Her class rank is slightly higher and she is an athlete (not a recruited one), but my test scores are better and my essays are probably better. Will Yale only accept one of us? It is very rare that anyone at my school applies to the Ivies, so I have no idea what to expect.
chill your prob fine
Clam fart.
I can’t say that it, per se, hurts you, but they are cognizant of the number of applicants from your school, and who is a serious candidate. I only add this as my youngest daughter is at Yale, and had similar questions. Bigger question is how many applicants from your region apply to Yale? If it’s, say the NY metro area–incredibly competitive, with tons of applicants, many from the same schools.
I can name at least five of my classmates that are applying to multiple schools that I applied to, some of which have much better test scores than I do. However, an application is more than a test score, if not, that would be the only thing asked in each app. There are essays which I know I was very strong in, rec’s, gpa, courseload, ethnicity, circumstance. Maybe you both won’t get in, but I would be more worried about the other 26,000 applicants whom very well could be of much higher caliber than either of you. I wish you the best.
We had a dozen of kids applying to Yale two years ago. More than two got accepted, and two goes there right now. So don’t worry.
