I just got back my first October SAT test.
Score: 2100 cr 670 m 670 w 760

GPA unweighted will be around 3.7-3.8
Taking hardest courses. Multivariate Calculus, Adv Programming, Double AP Sciences, (But regular history..), AP french, etc.

EC: Research internship, hospital volunteer (300 hours), 2 year varsity football, 3 year varsity tennis, 4 yr JV soccer. Lots of academic clubs and decent leadership (Secretary, VP, but no Presidents)

Cornell/Columbia is one of my dream schools. I know they don't look at Writing SAT score, do I have a chance to any Ivies? I don't have a strong hook except that I am first-gen Taiwan.

I am most likely going to retake SAT and take the ACT. I am really bummed at my CR and especially my Math score. Am I considered a competitive applicant? If not, what do I need to do? Thanks!

Your SAT’s are good enough, although they are certainly not stellar or anything, so I’d say you still have a reasonable chance for Cornell and Columbia.

The issue I foresee here is that Cornell only considers the CR and M scores, which means you only have a 1340 as far as they’re concerned. It’d be great if you can retake in December to improve your core CR+M scores as these are the slightly more important.

Also, try to work on something to make yourself stand out like a stellar EC or your grades while you can, just in case the SAT thing does not work out. Good luck!

I think all of the ivies are a reach, a very, very high reach with those test scores. Look at the 50% ranges of them. Cornell is the one where the OP has the best chance IMO. Columbia is very tough for admissions. These schools are all reaches from the get go, and I think those test scores make it so much more.

Your ecs are solid, and your scores and GPA is around the same as the average applicant (different than applicants admitted) what really set you apart, for me, was your rigor. Emphasize your three hundred hours at the hospital (how it played roles in personal development, people skills, discipline, etc.) in your app and I’d say you are definitely in the mix.

I definitely plan to. My mom/sister/family have strong ties to the particular hospital. Thanks for the help!

@cptofthehouse are my SAT scores too low? I am going to take it again but a the reality is i will probably get a 2180 and a 33 at the best… I thought the average SAT for cornell and Upenn was not as high?
