So the SAT Subject test scores came out today...and I didn't do so well on one of them :(

Spanish (not listening): 800
Math 1: 640 (lol)

Now before you all accuse me of being a native speaker and ruining the Spanish curve, I'm actually completely white, nobody in my family speaks Spanish, and I started learning it at 14. So with me being a non-native speaker I think that this was a great accomplishment. But.......the math score is so bad and I didn't really prepare at all because I had midterms everyday the week of the exam. Since there is such a discrepancy between the two scores, do you think it would make or break me?

My SAT 1 is a 2110 and my GPA is about a 3.9

I applied to the following schools: UPenn (legacy), USC, UCB (OOS), UCLA (OOS), UCSB (OOS), WashU, and UMich
I don't feel like going into detail with all of my EC's but they are pretty good and most of them involve Spanish. Another thing is that I applied as a Spanish major to all of these schools. Oh, and just for clarification, I already got into a couple schools so don't think I just applied to highly-selective ones. Thanks!

UCs don’t require subject tests. Also, they only really care about them if you’re a STEM major. so it probably won’t affect you at any of those except for maybe Penn and WashU. and even with those 2, it’s such a small part of the application that any effect it has will be tiny

Saying your chances are “ruined” is a serious exagerration. In no way are your chances ruined. In fact, I would say your biggest drawback is the over-emphasis on Spanish. But then again, too much of a good thing is a good problem to have…

Overall I woulden’t be too concerned. One math score is not going to ruin your entire application.

Thanks for the response. And well I don’t think it’s an over-emphasis because Spanish has been my main passion for the last four years and I’m even majoring in it. So I wanted to be as competent as possible in the field.

Considering you’re planning on majoring in Spanish, and Math and Spanish have no real direct link, I’d say, while this wasn’t the best thing that could’ve happened, you’ll be fine.

I’m a chemistry major with a Math2 score of 630 & just got into USC lol. For the UCs & USC, this shouldn’t hurt you at all. It just won’t add anything. Your SAT1 is more important, anyways.
