Thinking either Biology, or Education or Undecided. Any thoughts on chances? Given the JMU website does not list average GPA (for obvious reasons) looking to see if I am competitive based on the quality of my above classes compared to others that have gotten in. Thanks for any comments.

JMU’s average GPA is about a 3.88 (and a range of 3.5 - 4.1 for the middle 50% of those who enrolled last year), according to some college guides I’ve read and the College Board and Princeton Review websites. That’s based on your GPA as calculated and sent by the schools to JMU. However, due to the wide variation in grading scales and weighting of grades across high schools, JMU pays more attention to the strength/rigor of your curriculum, followed by your grades in each course you took, particularly core courses (which they consider to be math, English, social studies courses, foreign languages, and science). According to their admissions blog (on their website), they give extra consideration to students who take three or more years of the same foreign language and take math all four years (and especially like to see AP Calculus or AP Statistics). You are especially strong for having taken AP Calc and AP Physics. You have all A’s and B’s in a strong college prep curriculum, with plenty of advanced/AP courses, so you have an excellent chance of getting in regular decision and a fairly chance for EA (if you met the deadline of Nov 1). EA is more competitive at JMU, so it could go either way if you did that; but I believe you are a great candidate for RD. And your ACT score of 28 is very strong – puts you in the top 25% for JMU (their middle 50% range for ACT is about 23-27, so 28 puts you in their top quarter). It’s a great school. My son is a junior there and loves it. He’s intellectually challenged and also has a great social life. It’s a very friendly, strong community at JMU. Good luck!
