Yes, but it depends on where you are applying.

ECs are supposed to be a manifestation of your passions and personality, not a quantifiable measurement. Nobody can tell you if they are “good enough”.

Good enough for which schools? Most won’t take ECs into consideration at all, and at all ECs will be secondary to academics.

What I see from your list is a qualified, motivated student without high-level achievement, but you really haven’t provided enough information about any of these activities or the context in which you want us to view them (ie, what colleges are we talking?).

I’m applying to Vanderbilt.

Also, I’ve won various journalism awards at the school, district, regional, and state levels. I was also selected to attend a prestigious journalism/media conference this summer, but was unable to attend due to the cost.

I have also won a couple of volunteer awards. Freshman year I received the President’s Award for Outstanding Academic Excellence.

Guys,

for Ecs I have Volunteering abouve 150 hopefully,

Sports all 3 years. Math team. French Honors Society 11 , 12.

But Im also really interested in Architecture. I have visited many places in US, India, my dad works for a French Company, so whenever he goes abroad. He goes to Countries and brings me pictures and models of the buildings. I research and read a lot of books on ARchitecture.
I have been drawing and making models of buildings since I was very little. does this seem to be a passion EC that will get my application noticed by competitive colleges? but I wasn’t in the architectural club at my school.

"I was also selected to attend a prestigious journalism/media conference this summer, but was unable to attend due to the cost. "

Typically if a program/conference costs money for students to attend, being selected for it isn’t something that would impress colleges.

^Beat me to it.

This is certainly impressive. Impressive enough for Vanderbilt, however, will depend not only on ECs but on stats and on the picture painted of you with your essays, ECs, and recs.

Tennys, start your own thread.

Thanks, everyone! I’ve been told that my GPA and rank are “good enough” for Vandy. Right now, they’re messed up due to a miscalculation of my GPA which I am working on getting straightened out. (They have my weighted GPA lower than my unweighted.)

My SAT/ACT scores are very low. I’m retaking the tests and am hoping for a 1350 (M+CR) or a 30 ACT.

I have (what I think is) a good idea for my essay, but I’m not entirely sure if it will actually work. I also have two people that I know will be able to write fantastic rec letters. (One of them actually sponsored my in-school volunteer organization!)

Thanks again, everyone!

Also, I don’t know if this is worth mentioning, but when I graduate I will have done roughly 500 hours of community service/volunteer work.

Should I put that on my app?
