I am not very academically smart GPA wise for Harvard. I have a 3.8UW, 4.3W GPA. I got 2250 on the SATs. I am in the top 5% of my class that sends one kid to Harvard every year.

Thanks for the tips and comments!

by the way,
i go to a pretty good high school (about 300 on Newsweek) in California, and will not be requiring financial aid. Also, I have an upward trend from my freshman year.

thanks!

I would't say you're not smart... your SAT is good and your GPA isnt bad. Your ECs are pretty impressive, esp the singing/martial arts.

thanks, but the thing is as an asian(indian), it is sort of expected for me to get a 4.0 GPA, but I really can't do that.

do I stand a decent chance at all?

thnx!

if you are in the top 5% then it doesn't matter what your exact GPA is

iono, because i was on this website, and they said that the average person (50th percentile) gets a 4.0 UW GPA, so I got really worried about that. also, would having a song on a publicly sold CD soundtrack for a foreign movie increase my chances? i actually went to the studio, and was the singer for the song in the soundtrack, and recorded it. it is now featured in an indian movie!!

thanks!!!!!

the Indian classical singing is amazing; have you been on any shows like SRGMP or SVOI?

unfortunately not, although srgmp is coming to my neighboring city in 3 months, and i might try it!

can i get into harvard?

I think you have a great shot! The Indian singing really makes you unique- I'm sure Harvard won't get people like you in the applicant pool =)

But then again, no one is in for sure. I'd say you have one of the best shots though! Good luck!

thanks for all the posts!

any other ideas?

thnx!

You definitely have a great shot, both because of your ECs and your GPA & SAT (don't discount yourself in the academic dept.)

you have a great shot

wow guys thanks for all the optimistic views!

but don't you guys feel that a 3.8 for an asian-indian will be greatly looked down upon by harvard? also, i scored a 2250, which is "average" for harvard's standards. won't they expect an asian-indian to score much higher?

once again, thanks for the replys! keep em comming pls!

Don't focus too much on race, Harvard honestly doesn't care that much and the adcom won't look at you with these preconceived, and possibly ill-conceived, notions. Your application will stand out as a strong one!

You have a great shot at Harvard. I'd say you are a match.

OMG U GUYS!!!!
You guys seriously put a smile on my face! :) It is GREAT to hear that I stand a decent chance!!!

thanks!!!!!!!!

Oh-something else.

You're in DECA??? AND you were at ICDC? What event did you get 3rd in?

(I'm Washington's President btw)

hey ttan,
i actually already knew u are washington's president. im actually rohin's (he spoke to you earlier about becoming california state president, etc.) friend from school, and i am in his DECA chapter. he told us how he spoke to the washington president of DECA lol. i came 3rd in the written entrepreneurship one.

There is a stock market competition? Please tell I'm interested.

yeah, ill pm u the details later, as I can't exactly find it right now. the reason i created this club is actually because we have a part time stock-broker for a teacher at our school.

good luck!
