Are my EC's Mediocre? CC Kids have godly EC's-...

Okay, as most of you guys well know, the College Application process is drawing tediously close for us juniors and the panic is starting to set in. Here are my stats- can someone please comment on how my chances are and specifically if my extra curriculars are enough for a competitive Ivy League school?

GPA: (All GPA's unweighted- but yea taken the hardest possible courseload and taken the most classes humanly and technically possible)
Freshmen- 3.96/4.0
Sophmore- 3.87/4.0 (<--- But this is because I took BC Calculus as a sophmore, and ended up with a B+ as final. Got a 5 on the AP though. Btw does taking a crazy hard class as a sopmhore count as a "circumstance" to explain a drop in GPA? Other than this all my other classes were A's so that one class dropped me quite a bit)
Junior- N/A
Rank- My school doesnt rank. Its a Magnet High School in the Northeast (Ranked 101 in the country by Worth Magazine)

SAT's:
SAT I - 2350
SAT II's - 2C 800, Bio- 790, Physics-?
ACT - 33 (11 on writing section)
PSAT - Sopmhore year--> 214

Ah Yes. The EC's
1. Federal Reserve Challenge Team (Highly selective 5 member team)- 3 years (National Finalists last year)
2. Model UN- Awards at, Harvard, Princeton, Boston University, George Washington, and MIT (more to come hopefully this year including yale)
3. Model UN Staff in my school where we run our own conference- 3 years
4. Started a "Tutorial Society" in my school where we help tutor underprivileged children
5. INternet Science Tech Fair- National Honorable Mention (2nd place out of like 500 projects- ran by Univ. Southern Florida)
6. Vice President for "China Care"- spreads cultural awareness for adopted children
7. General Manger for Project Peace AHIMSA- spreads cultural awareness and advocates the knowledge of peace
8. Science Outreach Program- we go around in local middle schools and teach kids science topics
9. National Gold Rated Choir and Chamber Choir (a member- chamber is selective) - 3 years
10. Orchestra - 2 years
11. Junior Varisty Debate- 2 years (well not all 3 were JV)
12. Reserach at Columbia University for 2 Summers
13. Volunteered at Columbia University Hospital
14. Oh!. math team 3 years- Made AIME's. Some local and regional awards here and there- ARML high scorer~ (for those of you who knows what that is)
15. Wrote for the School newspaper for 3 years as a member. I just like writing, and cant find enough time to really dedicate myself to it so thats my fault.

Hooks:
1. Um... i really dont know? Does it seem like i have one- i know my Ec's are NOT SPECTACULar at all and are at best upper mediocre (right?0 it just seems so many CC kids are like... super super awesome at what they do and I really dont have anything THAT amazing)
2. Well my school is divided up in Academies for different fields. im in the Science academy and I am the first student ever to make it onto the Fed Team (suppsoed to be for the Business Academy). SO yea~ Im an asian interested in Business a PoliSci a lot? =D

Miscellaneous:
1. Reccs- 1 Really awesome recc from my Fed Team Coach, also taught me 2 years, 1 planning to get from my Multivariable Calc teacher~ mediocre i guess
2. Counselor recc- no clue.

List of Schools I Want To Attend:
1. Columbia College- *My parents work at the University Medical Center (free tuition if i get in- but i seriously doubt nor count on this helping me get in)
2. UPenn - Whaton (Or just Penn college)
3. NYU - Stern
4. Georgetown
5. Cornell
6. Johns Hopkins
7. Dartmouth
8. UChicago
9. Harvard
10. Yale -_-'

These are pretty much all what I perceive to be good match schools or my really reach schools. Can someone just kinda divy them up and tell me which ones I have a realistic shot of making based on the information aforementioned (especially my EC's because im under no illusion that every asian kid has similar stats to me). Thank you so very much my fellow CC'ers.

um. You seem pretty godly to me...

really, i think you've got a pretty good chance at all of them. Your ECs seem fine.

your godly, so shutup. Your fine, your the top level CCer, your no where below avg

Y'know, someone with really low grades and bad ECs are going to look at what you would consider "mediocre" and feel pretty stupid.

Howcome it's always the top students who think they are in horrible shape? I don't understand it. Those stats are really good.

Pretending to be modest. ;)

i personally feel insulted. i do not think i'm at all mediocre and have a 2160 on my SAT's and definetely have a lower GPA than you. if you sat there and typed out your whole resume to ask the rest of us to tell you whether you are mediocre, i truly believe you are mediocre than. Get yourself some self-esteem, and if this whole thread was some kind of joke, get yourself a better personality. because if anything, that's what seems to be mediocre.

You'll be lucky if you are waitlisted

Burned. :p

hey, i have a 2160 on my SAT's too! Let's make a club! I mean...

hahahha wow.. you can only modestly fish for compliments for soooo long...

Um no- sorry if this seemed pretentious...

It's just that I have been on CC a while, and from what I've seen, those CC applicants who are applying to the top tiered schools have things like Olympiads *Imo, chem, physics etc etc, published books, on the board of some national organization, and most have some truly OUTSTANDING talent either musical, writing, or some other facet. (Have CD's, bands, published writer etc etc)

While I understand that my extra-curriculars in a normal context would be considered good i guess, I think many people would agree that it is nothing specatcular at all in the spectrum of the top Ivy's (like Columbia, Harvard, Yale). I simply want people to honestly gauge what it would be like in the context of the top tiered applicants.

I apologize if this seemed in any way bolsterous, but I think that my Ec's lack the "Hook" everyone keeps talking about. Right?

get a life and stop caring so much about your resume

poor poor CC kids and their skewed perspective on life

To be blunt, only a small percentage of people have truly outstanding "hooks". If you've been around CC this long, you would have known this and thus would not have started a thread about your "mediocre" grades.

And don't mind our bitter comments. With college apps, we're all stressed out and the slightest thing - this thread being an example - sets us off.

i beg to differ. I think you have a lot of hooks! C'mon, you're practically like, saving starving children in africa. Okay, not quite, but still.

Started a "Tutorial Society" in my school where we help tutor underprivileged children"?

Reserach at Columbia University for 2 Summers?

General Manger for Project Peace AHIMSA- spreads cultural awareness and advocates the knowledge of peace?

Crazy good test scores?

Sounds pretty hooky to me.

Let me reassure you... you've done good. don't worry.

Man, what are you talking about? Compared to me, your ecs are AMAZING. You are GODLY. So shut up, you're making me feel bad :|

If you can't get into those top schools...nobody can.

well, if you're applying to the high-caliber schools that i see on your list, you'd better darn well expect other people to be as good or better than you. Do you think these colleges are reputable because there are mediocre people in them? You've done what you can throughout high school. Now its time to put in a good final effort for your applications and sit back, because there's nothing you can do after that. CC kids gauging your chances will have no actual bearing on your admissions results. And just in general, don't base your self-worth on your resume. Base it on YOU and who you are as a person. Nothing else will matter in the long run.

you are already in Columbia, man your stats are crazy...why do u torture me?

Well thanks for the input guys... I really had no idea before that my EC's were "outstanding". Some of these CC kids have AMAZINg things... international awards, publications yadadad so next to those... my stuff is almost nothing.

truazn...honestly ****...you are really annoying and I usually wouldn't respond to a post like this, but I couldn't resist the urge. You really are one pretentious bastard to put it in good terms...you know damn right you could get into almost any school you wanted to with those stats and EC's, yet you feel the need to make a lengthy post illustrating all you've accomplished only to make others feel inferior. No respect for people like you...learn to be modest for once...if you come off being cocky in your interview you can be reassured that you won't get into any of those schools.
