To give some background on grades/gpa: as a sophomore, I have a 3.87 cumulative GPA and a 4.2 weighted cumulative. I will be pursuing the IB diploma next year.
Just want some unbiased feedback from others on how I’m doing for preparing for applying to top colleges.
What do you mean by “top colleges”? I honestly don’t see the “pop” that colleges only accepting 5 to 7 out of 100 applicants look for. Your ECs are solid for colleges below the tippy tops.
I appreciate your feedback. The schools I am aiming for are (for example: Emory, Colgate, NYU, Georgetown) sorry I didn’t clarify what I defined as top colleges.
Grades, test scores, essays and LORs are more important.
Your ECs won’t get you into or keep you out of any college.
Over the next year keep your focus on doing as well as you can academically and on standardized tests.
I think they are reasonable for those schools.
What is on your list (and how many on your list) is not nearly as important as your level of participation and contribution in your EC’s. Absent some exceptional athletic or artistic talent for which they are specifically recruiting, top colleges are pretty indifferent to what is on the list. EC’s are used to gauge other qualities of the student, primarily in assessing how the applicant makes use of resources and opportunities and how they will contribute to the community of the school.
