Hi. I'm currently a SMC(community college) student hoping to transfer by next semester. For the past year I have been working part time in Burger King and this summer I will be working as an intern in the Business department of a hospital. Are these extracurriculars good enough to make me a competitive USC applicant?

Yes.

Just keep your gpa above a 3.9 and start on your personal statements way before the deadline.

They don’t care much about E.C.

@Eviity Thanks for replying. Are you a USC transfer too? How do you know this?

I got into USC as a transfer with only one EC, which was volunteer work. I have a 3.7 . I think something that is important is to make sure you are yourself on your application. What I mean by that is let them see your personality in your essays and stay true to yourself. Don’t just write what they want to hear… Can’t go wrong.

Because I talked to admissions/ many transfer representatives at USC. I’m an admitted USC transfer! : )

@melpru What was your major and what kind of volunteer work did you do? I plan to volunteer in a soup kitchen for the homeless after after summer school. Were you in any programs during your stay in community college?

@ I’m so jealous! I hope I will be able to be a transfer admit too. You’re parents must be so proud of you! I plan to meet with the USC transfer representative for my community college. I’m guessing you have to email them to make an appointment with them right?

E-mail, call, do whatever it takes to get your foot in the door. : ) but your GPA should get you in. Personal statements shouldn’t hurt you, unless you don’t write one.
