Extracurriculars:
Freshman: volleyball, relay for life participant, Renaissance academic achievement award
Sophomore: relay for life participant, Renaissance academic achievement award, HOWGlobal Fundraiser volunteer (3
hours), babysitting on my own time
Junior: Key Club member (volunteered for 2 events so far), Student Council member (helped set up for school dance so
far), relay for life participant, – thinking about getting a job soon
Senior (plan): key club member, student council member, thinking about starting a film/TV club at my school

Yes, they’re weak. From what you’ve written, you have no leadership roles in any of them and you’re in three clubs. Setting up the school dance is something every Student Council member is involved in. You’re courseload is also very weak. In most of the honors courses you’ve taken, you’ve gotten a B+ or lower. How is it possible you have a 3.98, but you have 5 Bs? I have 2 B+s and on my transcript and I have a 3.83 UW GPA You’ve also only taken one AP class. What colleges are you looking at? In my opinion, you’re not going to make a jump from a 1140 (as a junior) to like a 1350. It’s just not realistic, unless you want to put the work in. For now, I would toss top 40 schools out of the door.

Your EC’s are not weak but it really depends upon which type of schools you are targeting. Your EC’s are average and nothing stands out, but some schools will put more emphasis on your academic record than your EC’s while other schools will use your EC’s and essays to distinguish you from the rest of the competitive applicants. What is your passion and let that show through in your EC’s.

What colleges besides Ca publics and what major?
I wouldn’t call the ECs weak, but “easy.” Too easy, random. You can fix that now.

Im really not aiming for top 40 necessarily and im not looking to make that big of a jump either. i want to at least make it to the 1250 range and i have been trying to put the work in to bring it up. ive been looking at schools like University of San Diego, FSU, SDSU (safety), and other ca and fl schools. I’ve only gotten two B’s too. the junior year grades i put down there are only from the first marking period and this marking period i have straight A’s so i dont think my final junior grades will be as low. Im also planning on taking at least 2 APs next year as well. I know my ecs are weak, thats why im asking what i can and should do to make them better at this point.

im not targeting any super competitive colleges, i just want to go to a decently good one that ill like and be happy at (probably at least top 100). i also feel like i dont really have any outstanding passions. I like TV and film and enjoy making those projects for my class but thats about it besides guitar. thats why i was thinking about starting a club for that next year.

SDSU is not a safety as an OOS applicant. Priority goes to CA applicants and you never answered if your family can afford full fees to attend.
A safety is where you are guaranteed admission, affordable and you are sure you are willing to attend. Not knowing your financial situation, SDSU only meets one criteria in that you are willing to attend. Look to your in-state options as a safety.

colleges ive been looking at are USD, SDSU, FSU, UDel, LMU, and etc. I live in nj but my mom wants to move to either fl, az, or ca so if you know any good colleges in these areas that would be a good fit for me that would be helpful as well. im thinking about majoring in communications and media or film but im not sure yet.
Also, how do you think i can fix my ecs now? thank you!

When does your Mom plan to move? Depending upon when the move is made, getting in-state residency and tuition could take up to 2 years so make sure you take this into account for any public schools you apply. Getting in-state residency for CA is very difficult especially if you apply with an OOS transcript. Make sure you know the residency requirements for any states you plan to move.
Look at Arizona State, University of Arizona, St Mary’s College, Occidental, CSU Fullerton, San Francisco State, University of San Francisco to name a few.

well she was planning on moving with me but if it would increase my chances of being accepted into college, im sure she would go earlier depending on how early she would have to go. and ok ill look into them thanks! youve been a big help
