Are my GPA/Classes good?

I am currently a sophomore and have a 4.2 GPA (one AP class, Computer Science, and 100% sure at least 4 on exam). No AP classes were available freshman year, but so far, including sophomore year, I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA. For junior year, I am planning to take:

Game Programming (to further programming skills learned in Comp. Sci. AP)

Spanish II (taking Spanish III in junior-senior summer school and Spanish IV in senior year)

Statistics AP

English (COULD SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME FIGURE OUT WHETHER TO TAKE OR REGULAR!!!!!!)

Math Analysis Honors (not AP, but 5.0 class)

Chemistry AP (two period class)

I am almost sure I will be able to get a 4.5 junior year and as a result, get a 4.35 for 10-11 GPA. This is if I take REGULAR English and get an A in all classes.

Classes planned for senior year:
English (again unsure for AP)
Calculus BC AP
Physics AP
Government AP + Economics AP (each one semester class)
Spanish IV (very likely for Honors which is 5.0 class)
Elective (empty spot unsure what to do with)

My first question is am I taking the right classes so far and am I making the right decision for class choices (I want to go to UCLA or UC Berkeley or UCSD)? My second question is should I take English AP or regular in junior and senior year?

Before you answer the second question, you must know that I have never taken Honors or AP English before and that it is definitely my WORST subject. If I take regular English, I WILL be able to get at least a 4.3 10-11 GPA and at least a 4.4 10-12 GPA. If I am to take AP English, I am positive I would get a B in the class and a 3 on the exam. I personally am leaning towards taking regular English because I am so sure I am going to get a B and a 3 on the exam (the UC schools want 4's on exams for credit and I want to go to UCLA or Berkeley).

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ALL RESPONSES!!!

you’re fine. You re obviously going for Engineering? Dont do AP English if that is not your goal. Your grades will carry you. You’ll get into all three. Dont overlook stanford!

DRussian - I just want to tell you about my son. He will be a senior this year and in grades 9-11 he got all A’s except for English where he earned a B each year. This past year he took AP English and did not enjoy himself. I asked him 3 separate times if he wanted to take regular English next year instead of AP, but he said he is sticking with AP for 2 reasons. 1) if he ends up at the U of Minn honors program, his AP scores (they will accept as low as a 3) will get him out of the freshman english requirements and 2) all of his friends will be in AP english and he would prefer to suffer with the course work than spend a whole year with a group of kids he doesn’t connect with.

Maybe you can call your school and find out who the teacher will be. A good teacher always makes the course work more enjoyable. If you don’t take AP english you will have zero chance at getting a 4 for credit. It sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and you will make the right decision for you.

I think that you should take take the normal class since you say that english is your worst subject, it wouldn’t be much fun to have to take it as an AP

The top UCs expect you to take the highest level classes available to you the vast majority of the time. I would take honors everything at the very least for the top UCs, with the most possible APs you can handle.

Thanks for all replies! It looks like I’m not going to take AP English, but I am going to enroll in Moorpark college classes this year for UC credit.
