I was very happy with my June SAT scores. This was my third and final time taking them. I received a 710 on Math, 700 on CR, and a 720 on Writing with a 9 essay. I was wondering if these scores are good enough for the colleges I'm looking at. (My GPA is 4.67 weighted, Class rank is 29/465, and I volunteer and am in many clubs). I am looking at Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Maryland, Penn State (Safety School), and Possibly Georgia Tech). Thanks!

Carnegie is brutal from what I’ve heard, but really anything above a 2100 is competitive no matter where you go. At the nation’s best programs, it’s not really about test scores as much as your extracurricular activities and your uniqueness. Having said that, if you feel you can do much better, then retake the test; it can only help you. But you shouldn’t think that scores define you, because there are things much more important than test-taking skills in the college process and in life in general. The only question you should ask is “Did I do my best?” If the answer is yes, then your scores are good enough.

Yeah I did do my best. I could do better with more studying but I’ve already taken it 3 times. Time to move on to subject tests before applying for college this fall. I want to major in Computer Science or Information Sciences and I want a scholarship to be able to graduate with a lackluster of debt.

I don’t know anything about Penn State, but you may want a safety with a guaranteed scholarship amount. My state is heavy on those, and it’s nice to know you’ll have a debt-free (excluding meal plans) college experience before the application period begins.
