Are my math scores too low?

Hello all,

I have a question regarding my SAT, SAT II, and ACT test scores in math. I am concerned that these scores will have a negative effect of my application to a top school.
SAT: 650
SAT II (Math 2): 690
ACT: 34

So, as you can see, both my SAT math scores were pretty low relative to that of accepted students at top schools. However, my ACT score is on par with students who are accepted to such schools.

As a perspective engineering major, I am concerned that the low SAT math scores will hurt my application. However, I do find it important to mention that I have done very well in 3 years of honors/AP math classes. In fact, I am a very good math student, but my SAT scores don't exactly convey that fact. For one reason or another, the SAT, and all it's math components seem to be my weakness.

I am aware that standardized test scores do NOT make or break an application, and that all top schools claim to have holistic admissions. Nonetheless, these scores still have some sort of impact on my application.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

It depends on what schools you plan on applying to. What are good math scores for one school may not be so good for another.

Well as far as schools go I’d say Cornell, Columbia, and Stanford. I would be applying for engineering for each school as well.

Just something else I want to tack on - I am just not sure if two low scores will raise any red flags in comparison with the rest of my application. As far as grades, rank, GPA, and other scores go, I am in good shape.

Don’t worry about the SAT I Math Score just send the ACT and not the SAT and colleges won’t see it. You should try to retake the SAT II but if you can’t raise it don’t worry, it’s not a deal breaker.

@PMoney1‌ Unfortunately, all the schools listed REQUIRE that I send them every test I’ve taken. I don’t get the option of only sending one or the other. They must seem every test I’ve take, and every time I’ve taken it.
