Are My Sister's Grades Good Or Great?

Just a random question she wanted me to post.

School Type: Central NY College Prep

Health 9: 96
English 9: 90
Writing 9: 97
Phys Ed 9: 97
Algerbra 9: 94
Religion 8: 98
Earth Science 9: 94
Global Honors: 98
French 9: 92

Why are you posting for your sister?

My parents said that she can’t have a CC profile yet, because she’s not going to think about college until she’s in 11th grade.

Is a 90 an A or a 93?

An 80+ is an A, right?

Well, they’re okay. Her marks aren’t bad or anything though…

I’m KIDDING, they’re amazing.

I think an A is 90, but we don’t do letter grades so…

90 overall average with no semester average below 80 is honors.

93 overall average with no semester average below 85 is high honors.

Oh yeah, that would be Religion 9.

Only in your section of Canada. :stuck_out_tongue: An A here is typically a 90+ or a 93+.

The grades are decent as long as she’s taking the most challenging courses. If there are a bunch of honors courses for 9th graders then that’s not good. I mean, they’re not outstanding but good.

I love how no one is ecstatic about them. XD

At my school they would be amazing… but no one ever gets straight A’s unless they’re genius.

I’d say they’re good, but not great.

^Try 94+ at my HS, aigiqinf!

But yea, your sister’s grades are great!

In my school 93+=A, but 96+=4.0
-sigh-

At my school, grades aren’t considered great unless you have 98%+ (A+…) :(

But yeah, your sister’s are pretty good.

Okay, well if you’re going to get technical, an 80 is an A-…
And a 90 is an A, and a 95+ is an A+.

Same thing, really.

Quick question: do colleges take your GPA from grade 12? Or is it your average GPA throughout HS?

LiverpoolFC, first if you are a fan of Liverpool FC in England, then you’re awesome.

Second, colleges take the GPA of your entire high school years.

Honestly, colleges look more at the courses and the specific grades than your GPA - what does a GPA of 3.8 mean, for instance? It depends on the school, so that’s not the best way to compare people.

I think they are great; however, I would strongly recommend for her, if she is considering top colleges and even if she isn’t (so she can challenge herself), to take a more difficult courseload next year because as previous people have pointed out, there is a difference between a 4.0 with a difficult courseload and a 4.0 with an easy courseload. Try to take some AP classes and Honors classes if it’s possible at your school.

Clarification about GPA for colleges. HS GPA’s typically are cumulative for grades 9-11. Usually GPA/rank is calculated at the end of 11th grade. This is done so that those values can be used when appications for colleges are submitted in Fall of senior year. Colleges do still care about senior grades though and will most likely ask for a mid-year report and final report in 12th grade.

Is Earth Science a lab class? At my school its a non-lab class so you can’t use it as a science requirement for 4 year universities…only chem fullfills it (along with Biology instead of Life Science)

Yes, I am a HUGE fan of Liverpool Fc. =)
Second, WOW that sucks !
In Ontario, Canada, you could be getting 50% in gr 9-11 and it wouldnt matter. They just take your top six university course averages in grade 12 !
I love Canada<3333 haha I feel bad for you guys…
