Are my stats too low for Boston University engineering?

My stats are lower than the competition, but Boston University is one of my top choices and I am highly considering applying ED. Is it worth it to apply to BU with my stats or should I consider another school for ED I.

Unweighted GPA: 3.3
Weighted GPA: 3.6
ACT: Highest Composite: 31(missed 32 by one point) Superscore: 33
Extracurriculars:
-Played 4 years of varsity tennis and was awarded team MVP my sophomore year.
-I have also been a captain for the tennis team for 2 years.
-Co-founded my school’s bike club and currently serve as the treasurer. We occasionally compete.
-Volunteered at my county library where I helped senior citizens with tech related issues.
-I am a member of my school’s Quiz Bowl and Biology club.
-I also took a number of courses at my local community college.

Also I will take subject tests in October.

In my senior year I am currently taking AP Physics 1, AP Comp Sci, AP Calc AB.

My GPA is low because of my sophomore year.
My intended major is Computer engineering. I was thinking about CS but BU only offers a BA.
I would appreciate any feedback.

@mmm2000 I would only apply ED to BU if you can afford the tuition and won’t need to compare the financial package from BU to other schools. Use the Net price calculator on the BU website to see what your EFC is.Remember If you apply ED to BU you are entering into a binding agreement with them that says if you are admitted you will withdraw all other college applications and attend BU.

BU has become much more selective in the last few years. Make sure you talk to your parents about the cost and what it means to apply ED before you submit your application. Best of luck to you.

BU would be a low reach EA.

Thank you for the response. My family can afford to pay up to $40000 a year since I also have a twin brother applying.

I meant RD.

Thanks for the insight. If I were to apply ED would that alter my chances in any way?

All of BU’s science degrees (as opposed to engineering degrees) are BAs. It doesn’t matter. http://www.bu.edu/admissions/academics/programs/majors/

You can’t get a BS in Computer Science from schools like Harvard, Dartmouth. or Williams either.

If you can only afford 40K, do not apply ED. With a 33 ACT (BU will only look at your superstore), you should have a decent chance without. As said, BA vs BS does not matter for CS. If you want to do CS truly, doing CE will be a very roundabout. Do the major you want.

@PengsPhils Thanks for the response. I meant that my parents can pay 40K a year for each my brother and I(Total EFC of 80K). Also, do you know if BU takes into account siblings applying the same year for financial aid.

Siblings tend to be a very unpredictable case when it comes to financial aid, hence why I would not apply ED. It’s just too unpredictable financially.
