I have a friend who got a 2100 SAT, she was a geek (i'm not saying that in a bad way, just a quick description) but she hasn't be accepted to some great schools. I also have a friend who got into Columbia and she has a 1700 SAT, she had ECs (in track) but not that much. She had a great essay and is a minority. Is it that it's not numbers are not always super important. I feel quite inferior because I got a 1920 and I doubt a great college would accept me. I have travelled a lot and have a difficult background. I volunteer and have other ECs but i'm not an athlete. I'm a minority too but yet I feel like I have very little chances with schools like Columbia and such

We do see rare cases of people with fairly low numbers for said universities get accepted to them. I feel like they are rare cases and really are luck for all I care. They happen so rarely and those colleges look so deep into scores and achievements that it is hard to say that numbers are less important. High numbers get your foot in the door, and then your essays, ec’s, etc…get you into those competitive school I think.
