Are online classes viewed any different than a class you took at school

I understand its one thing if the class you're taking online is not offered at your school or perhaps you didn't have room to take this class in your regular schedule. A lot of people say online classes are easier than taking the class at school so do colleges look down upon taking upper level courses like APs online?

Each educational institution makes its own decision regarding on-line courses. I imagine much will depend on which on-line course you take and whether you receive a grade in the course and a transcript. EdX, for example, does not give grades or transcripts, just certificates of mastery, so I’m not sure how a college admissions office would view that.
