<p>I've heard that a lot of people at Colgate have really snobby attitudes. Although I don't consider this a definite fact or anything, I can sort of understand how that might be possible, considering what I've heard about the financial status of the stereotypical Colgate student. Can anyone tell me if there is any truth to this allegation, or if everyone is totally nice and humble.</p>

<p>I think Colgate has a reputation for being a really friendly place.</p>
<p>When we visited last March, I thought the students were unusually friendly. We had visited a number of colleges, and at Colgate students walking by our tour group would say hi and tell the kids to "come to Colgate". Our guide gave out her email address and was really nice. Plus-they had ice cream sandwiches in the admissions office. What more could you want?</p>
<p>The financial status of families with kids at Colgate are just not going to be substantially any different than at any of the other (fill in the blank) top ranked Liberal Arts Colleges. Given tuition costs at all these schools, admission requirements etc. they really couldn't be.</p>
<p>Actually when my D interviewed there last year we found them to be if anything, nicer at Colgate, without some of the intellectual or cultural pretensions of students at a few of the other schools in the same league (er...not Patriot League). They are generally bright and above average but not elitist and study hard but enjoy a good time. Also the healthy interest in athletics and physical activity of so many, not just those on varsity sports, but intermurals and club sports is a leveler. It's hard to be on any team and play with others and be snobby.</p>
<p>Colgate students may appear to be cold and snobby based on appearance, but once you get to know them, they're really nice, friendly, generally very happy people. Most love Colgate, even if they didn't in the beginning.</p>
<p>False. There are very few snobby people- only because they refuse to move out of their little groups of friends. But when they do move out, they're really friendly.</p>
<p>Everyone says hello to each other- just having someone say hi to me early in the morning really makes my days!</p>

<p>I think that I may have heard something about Colgate giving full scholarships to their top 200 (academically) applicants. I think they're called alumni memorial scholarships. Not to the top 200 incoming freshmen, but to the top 200 applicants. Has anyone heard anything about this, and if someone has, do you have any idea what stats are needed to be one of these top 200 applicants. Thanks again.</p>
<p>Yes, Colgate does award the Alumni Memorial Scholar honor to the top 200 applicants. It's not a full scholarship, though, sorry - financial aid to AMS is still awarded based on need only. AMS's are able to apply for a one-time $5000 fellowship for travel and research. You can read more about it on the Colgate website.
