Are Proctors Required to...

Are proctors required to indicate that there is 10 minutes remaining in both the MC and the FRQ sections of AP exams? Looking at the audit exam "directions for administration" it says that students should be given a 10 minute warning prior to the end of each section of the exam.

(Our proctor failed to do this for the MC portion of the USH exam, causing me and other testers to skip over 10 questions.)

i think so but i just keep my own time, takes 2 seconds to look up at the clock and i can do this whenever i want…

well if they say so, then probably, yeah.
but you can always look up at the clock :)

(unless there isn’t a clock in your testing room, which would be outrageous)

i bring a stop watch, helps a ton - u should to., the ap exams bring enough stress, and worrying about the time should be the last of your worries

Apparently this happened at our school for Calculus BC… one poor girl only had half of her test bubbled in, as she has just circled the answers in her test book. I heard it worked out in the end though.

I can totally relate to how you feel. In my USH exam our proctor failed to give us time warnings, too. Would I have a reason to complain to ETS or CB, or is it not even worth it?

They’re supposed to, but I’ve learned from years of testing that it’s always easier to just make sure there is a clock nearby or bring a watch. This is not at all a biting remark, but it is your test and you don’t want the proctor to interfere with the grade you worked hard for. Most (or all, I should say) proctors are just teachers or counselors who don’t know the stress AP tests can bring and for most first-timers, they don’t know you need something to make sure your timing is correct. So just learn from this experience and hope it doesn’t happen again :P

Proctors are told NOT to say anything about time remaining in the MC sections so there isn’t a looking over your shoulder stress factor. But students can ask how much time is left if there is confusion or concern. In the essay portion proctors are to warn at the ten minute mark.

My proctor gave us 5minute warnings on the M/C and then the essays she was like:
It is now 40minutes after starting time. You should begin working on essay #2, but you may move freely between the three.

I am wearing a watch, so I am not going to be too concerned. That is as long as they start exactly at 12:15 or 12:30.

They are supposed to, especially if there is no clock in the testing room (like out our school- crazy I know?) The proctor has been pretty good about give us time marks but I bring a watch just in case, to pace myself.
