Are SATs needed for all US universities?

Hi,

I am studying in Hong Kong and thinking of applying to the US. However, I am not doing SATs and will not do it. I am taking the IB diploma right now, so I was wondering if there are any ways to get into US universities without completing SATs.

Thanks,
Michael

Thanks! Looks like I’ll have to stick with HK and UK then, since most of the better schools do require SATs.

Are you opposed to testing in general or only the SAT? The ACT test is also acceptable to most US colleges.

Michael, how much money are you willing to pay? If you are willing to pay the total cost of attendance then SAT doesn’t really matter but, if you will be asking for need based financial aid, SATs will be a MUST in most of the colleges!!

^^This is misleading. For the majority of US colleges, and especially for the selective ones, scores on the SAT (or ACT) matter A LOT. Paying the full cost of attendance does not lessen the need for good scores to be admitted to these schools.

There isn’t one US college that requires the SAT, although a few require SAT Subject Tests. Some are test optional, and of colleges that require standardized tests, EVERY one accepts the ACT.

^True.
